Recycle your mobile phone to help YFC and the environment.
They say one person’s rubbish is another person’s treasure - this is certainly true for Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Young Farmers who are working with a company in East Anglia to turn old mobile phones into much needed funds for the Federation.
There are currently millions of mobile phone handsets in circulation that pose a threat to the environment if not recycled responsibly. When mobile phones are thrown away they end up in already over-stretched landfill sites where they can cause pollution; as they slowly break down, chemicals can leak into the surrounding soil. By recycling them responsibly the environment can be better protected.
There are a number of valuable materials and components used in the production of mobile phones that can be re-used if carefully removed.
The handsets that have reached the end of their useful life in the UK can offer a low-cost communication solution to users in developing countries who cannot afford to buy a brand new handset. Working handsets are tested and re-packaged ready for export. Handsets that cannot be re-used are environmentally recycled and can be transformed into things like sleeping policeman and frisbees.
Cambs & P’boro Young Farmers aim to collect as many of these unwanted mobile phones as possible to send them for re-processing and re-use where possible in return for which up to £10 per phone will be donated to the Federation.
To participate in this eco-friendly fundraiser, simply drop off your unwanted mobile phones at the YFC Office at the College of West Anglia or hand them in at your local Young Farmers Club! You can also contact the YFC Office for a freepost envelope. Thank you for your support. Please click on the contact us page to find out how to get in touch with the office.
